Alternate numbered clues contain a superfluous letter. These letters, in clue order, refer to a biblical text (from the Authorised Version) which gives advice on the adjustments to be made, the numbering of adjusted lights, and the identification and placement of one unclued word (also commended by Diodorus Siculus).
