Preamble Being lost in a maze of words, the solver must establish where the escape route begins, take directions from the Guide's answers, which are given in order, and highlight the escape route, ignoring any bars.
All clues are normal, but fourteen of the Across clues contain an extra word. These are the definitions of the fourteen unclued entries in their normal order.
Solution Notes

The "Escape Route" is provided by answers to the Guide's clues which each contain an element of direction (not entered) to indicate the continuation of the route. These answers are: Unorthodox, pop-lacrosse, absents, landowner, droplet, backwardness, inwind, back-lots, surprising, tax disc (a-cross), Eastern, South Sea, candescent, swaying, rawest, climbing-iron, forwarded, acne, Wayne, outright. The route begins where START HERE is written (backwards) across the grid, and finishes with WAY OUT.
