Title The Evolution of East Perry
Setter The Ace of Hearts
Series The Listener
Number 4463
Date 12/08/2017
Grid Circular barred grid without symmetry consisting of six rings. The outer three rings comprise 40 cells, the next two 20 and the innermost 10. Clues are listed under the heading Radials.
Preamble A two-word term (A) for a thematic item must be entered in the centre of the grid. Six clues consist of wordplay only; their answers are all of a kind (B) that may carry the thematic item and they are entered inwards. Each other clue has a misprint in the definition; the correct letters spell out a definition of A. Of the answers to these clues, nineteen must be entered inward, five outward and ten jumbled before entry. The third ring from the perimeter, reading clockwise, contains six more items of the B kind. The outermost ring, reading clockwise and disregarding the perimeter letters of the B items, contains another definition of A. The Chambers Dictionary (2016) is the primary reference; 37 is part of a phrase.
