Title Why Not…?
Setter Apex
Series The Listener
Number 2886
Date 12/02/1987
Grid 11×12 barred grid with 180° symmetry. There are four lines to be completed under the grid
Preamble Seventy letters of a quotation (seventeen words) should really occur in the answers to the clues, the first two in 1ac, the second two in 6ac, and so on, in the correct order up to the last two, which should occur in 28dn. All these letters must be omitted when the answers are entered, and written out instead along the lines below the diagram. Definitions in the clues refer to the unmutilated answers (lengths indicated by numbers in brackets); subsidiary indications refer to the mutilated forms entered in the diagram. Clues, apart from 5dn, are presented in symmetrical pairs and, in each pair, stand side by side without overlapping, but either may appear first. Chambers (1983 New Edition) is recommended.
