Title Missing Character
Setter Aragon
Series The Listener
Number 3872
Date 08/04/2006
Grid 13×13 barred grid with 180° symmetry.
Preamble One letter must be omitted from each answer wherever it occurs. Wordplay in clues leads to the mutilated form of the answer to be entered. Omitted letters from across clues spell out four definitions of a single word. Down clue omissions similarly refer to a second word. Taken together, these words form a name with the final letter missing. Twenty-one cells in the completed grid mark the occasion being celebrated by the puzzle and these must be highlighted to allow the missing character to appear. Chambers Dictionary (2003) is the primary reference.
