Linear G____
Setter
Aragon
Series
The Listener
Number
3655
Date
02/02/2002
Grid
12×13 barred grid with 180° symmetry. The central square in the left and right columns are completely barred off. There are no clue numbers. Clues are listed under a single heading.
Preamble
Clues are listed in order of solution length within alphabetical groupings by initial letter; ie APE would precede AARDVARK which would precede BEE etc. Twenty-four contain a thematic element, usually jumbled, which must be replaced by a single letter for the clue to be solved correctly (in one clue the letter replaces two adjacent elements). In line with htis, answers to two further clues must be replaced by a singleletter grid entry. Ten clues contain no reference in the wordplay to one of the letters in the answer. In grid order, these letters give a three-element phrase, an anagram of the full original title. As that title may be inapt on this occasion, solvers are invited to embellish twelve squares in the completed grid a shade more appropriately, although this is not obligatory.
