Title 6 Across
Setter Shackleton
Series The Listener
Number 4395
Date 23/04/2016
Grid 13×13 barred grid with 180° symmetry. Three cells are isolated.
Preamble Each clue (including 6ac) has a single misprint in the definition; the corrections spell out two messages. The characters 6 across from misprints (ignoring punctuation and spaces) spell out two more messages; the four messages give a synopsis of the story. Also, the first message indicates an item (jumbled) and its complement that must both be highlighted (9 and 5 cells respectively, each in a straight line), the second is the clue to 6ac, the third describes certain entries, and the fourth relates to three curves (one a closed outline) solvers must draw through a total of 30 symmetrically-placed cells. The isolated cells must be filled identically, to accord with the messages and theme. Some symmetrically-placed cells will contain two letters. The Chambers Dictionary (2016) is the primary reference.
